Throughout the month of March, a team of RSE employees have been walking every day in a fundraising effort for WaterAid’s Walk for Water campaign. The team were challenged with walking 4km, 8km or 12km a day, to reflect the distances people around the world often walk to reach a clean water source providing suitable drinking water.

Team RSE successfully completed the challenge, covering a combined total of 654.55km on their daily walks, placing them 3rd on the Walk for Water team leaderboard for overall walking distance and 1st on the team leaderboard for overall fundraising amount.

The team member who covered the furthest distance for the challenge was Charlie MacLennan, walking a staggering 323.80km in the past 31 days of March, despite losing out on a week of walking due to self-isolation. This setback only inspired Charlie to go further once he was allowed to resume his walks, hiking the South Loch Ness Trail. This involves a steep climb up the corkscrew to Balchraggan, over the top of the hill by the Bealach an Gille Ban and back down the slopes above Loch Ness – covering an impressive 32km to add to his total.

I’ve been involved with WaterAid for at least 15 years. It seemed very apt to be working in the water industry and supporting the charity to do such good work in countries where clean water is a scarcity – we forget how lucky we are. Walk for Water was a good motivation to get out, exercise and raise some funds at the same time. The walks have been enjoyable and have become a part of my routine, so WaterAid and I have both benefitted from the challenge.

The team have managed to raise an amazing £450 for the challenge, with thanks to the generous donations from friends, family and colleagues. In support of the Walk for Water campaign, and the Team RSE walkers, RSE have matched the sponsorship of the walker who has raised the most money and walked the furthest distance for the challenge, resulting in a fundraising total of £930.

The team are still encouraging any donations after the successful completion of their walking challenge, so if you haven’t already donated and would like to show your support then please click on the following link to visit the Team RSE fundraising page: Walk for Water | WaterAid UK

Thank you for all your support and well done to all involved!
