On National Allotment Week (8th-14th August 2022), RSE is delighted to announce sponsorship of Airdriehead Community Allotments, a brand-new development of plots being established for the community in Cumbernauld.
Located behind Cumbernauld Primary School, 39 plots of various sizes have been allocated to members of the community from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. In addition to the plots, raised bed areas will be accessible to the primary school as a learning resource, alongside an open community space. Once opened, Airdriehead Community Allotment will be hosting workshops to educate people on a range of topics, including horticultural techniques, organic farming, medicinal herbs and foraging. Events will also be run for the local community to gather and celebrate the success of the allotment, such as a harvest farmers market and open BBQ.
Allotment plots are an outdoor space which not only grows fresh produce, but also supports the pollination of our eco-systems and offers a refuge for wildlife in urban areas. National Allotment Week celebrates the importance of community allotments, such as Airdriehead, in bringing people together and the well-being benefits of sharing a love of gardening, growing produce, physical exercise and social interaction.
RSE is pleased to support an allotment project which will make a real difference to a community close to our Cumbernauld office and give as many people as possible the chance to benefit from spending time outdoors, learning a new skill and connecting with people and nature alike. Our sponsorship will help to facilitate access to a communal storage shed for plot holders and our Cumbernauld team are thrilled to provide materials, including the recycling of wooden pallets, and volunteer labour to the project.
