RSE employees Leia Pol and Katie Ferguson have both taken part in the Scotland’s Future Leaders Programme (SFLP).
Leia has recently completed the programme whilst Katie is on track to complete it this year.
The SFLP programme was set up by today’s leaders to ensure that the leaders of the future are well equipped to deliver on the UK’s targets of ending it’s contribution towards climate change by 2050 (2045 in Scotland).
The fight against climate change represents the greatest challenge of our time. Effectve, purpose-driven leadership will be essential if we are to succeed in delivering a target of net zero carbon emissions and it is up to climate focused business leaders to achieve this goal.
Scotland’s Future Leaders Programme has the following Mission, Vision and Values:
Mission: To mobilise and raise a generation of business leaders who are commited todriving change to deliver net zero by 2050 (2045 in Scotland)
Vision: To have leaders who trail blaze a culture of collaboration and innovation to create globally leading industries that will reverse climate change.
Inclusion – because we need talent from every corner to contribute
Collaboration – because the challenge is bigger than any individual
Results – because there is no point doing this if we don’t make a tangible difference
The programme was split into 3 different phases:
This phase consisted of 4 modules; Mission, Make Capacity, Think Differently and Empower Others. The foundation phase is designed to equip delegates with the mindset and essential leadership skills to start being an effective leader right away. Each module was unique and included activities such as coaching, personality profiling, emotional intelligence and even Lego building.
This phase allowed delegates to explore an area of sustainability/net zero which they are passionate about, in the form of a group project. The project puts the learnings from phase1 into practice through a real world scenario.
This phase follows the graduation of the previous phase and encourages delegates to join a growing network of leaders who collaborate and assemble periodically to review progress towards Net Zero, challenge each other, and drive accountability.
Katie Ferguson, who is currently taking part in the programme had the following to say about it:
