Encouraging Reuse, Recycling, Repurposing, and Sharing of Materials and Resources

The Circular Economy is a sustainability model which encourages circularity across the value chain, encouraging reuse, recycling, repurposing, and sharing of materials and resources. The Circular Economy brings environmental benefits but also economic and social benefits to an organisation.

In a world where resources are finite and environmental concerns loom large, the circular economy is the transformative concept that’s changing the way we produce, consume, and envision our economic systems. At RSE, we aim to operate as a business where waste is minimised, products are designed to last, and resources are used efficiently, paving the way for a healthier planet and a thriving economy.

Circular Economy Case Study – Dalwhinnie Water Treatment Works (WTW)

A redundant Transportable Treatment Unit (TTU) was removed from Craignure in 2019 and transported to our workshop in Muir of Ord, where it was refurbished for its new purpose at Dalwhinnie WTW (Water Treatment Works). This process saved approximately 19 tonnes of CO2e, as a result of re-using an old building rather than fully fabricating a new structure.

Dalwhinnie WTW is a great example of implementing the recycling principle of the circular economy, from design through to installation. All RSE projects similarly consider methods of carbon reduction from the outset of the project. The earlier carbon reduction is incorporated into the design phase of a project, for example alternative design and process, or low carbon materials, the greater the overall impact will be on carbon reduction.
